	Cape Breton island is widely known for having some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. Indeed, the Cape Breton tourist trade is based on this attraction and is an integral part of the Cape Breton economy. Many thousands of people over the decades have forgone greater wealth and better opportunities elsewhere for living a life in this environment with all its natural beauty. Ironically, the idea of Iconic Views has more to do with the philosophy based on a better quality of life and being immersed in the natural environment than with a particular visual. So. we are petitioning the decision makers not to abandon the long-held philosophy of dedication to preserving the pristine nature of this Island and its beauty. In particular, although we acknowledge that the need for structures like telephone poles are necessary to modern human development; we also believe that the Cape Breton environment is sacred and has been paid for by our ancestor's devotion to stay and become one with the environment figuratively in life and literally in death. We are not asking to stop progress; we are asking Bell Aliant to work with the CBVI Group to identify those Iconic Views that are an integral part of our lives, culture, and economy and to find alternative placements of infrastructure where necessary to preserve a treasure that belongs to all of us.
